God promised to care for Abraham
and his descendants in every way—
spiritually, physically, financially,
socially. In Genesis 17:7 God said to
Abraham, “And I will establish my
covenant between me and thee…to be
a God unto thee, and to thy seed after
thee.” The Hebrew name for Almighty
God is El Shaddai. El means “supreme;”
Shaddai means “the breasty one.” In
other words, God was promising to be
their father, their mother, their nurse—
the supreme provider of everything
they would need in life. He spoke the
words of the covenant and swore by
Himself to keep it. This was an ironclad
agreement.

The people of Israel badly trampled
the covenant at Mount Sinai, but
through Moses’ intervention, God forgave
them. At this point, God handed
down the Law and instituted the Levitical
priesthood to help repair the damage
that had been done. God was sworn
to their destruction for breaking the
covenant, but instead He allowed sacrificial
offerings to cover their sins. The
Levitical priesthood was brought into
existence for one purpose: to bridge the
gap between God and mankind.

Hebrews 9:22 states that “without
shedding of blood is no remission
(of sin).” There had to be a mediator
between God and Israel because of the
existence of the blood covenant. The
first mediator was the Levitical priesthood.
The last mediator was Jesus—
our High Priest who ever liveth to
make intercession for us (1 Timothy
2:5; Hebrews 7:25).

In Deuteronomy 28:1-14, Moses
recorded God’s law and the articles of
the covenant, listing the blessings of
God promised to those who will put
His Word first place in their lives.

And it shall come to pass, if thou
shalt hearken diligently unto the
voice of the Lord thy God, to observe
and to do all his commandments
which I command thee this day,
that the Lord thy God will set thee
on high above all the nations of the
earth: And all these blessings shall
come on thee, and overtake thee, if
thou shalt hearken unto the voice
of the Lord thy God. Blessed shalt
thou be in the city, and blessed shalt
thou be in the field. Blessed shall be
the fruit of thy body, and the fruit
of thy ground, and the fruit of thy
cattle, the increase of thy kine, and
the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall
be thy basket and thy store. Blessed
shalt thou be when thou comest in,
and blessed shalt thou be when thou
goest out. The Lord shall cause thine
enemies that rise up against thee
to be smitten before thy face: they
shall come out against thee one way,
and flee before thee seven ways.

Genesis 12:1-3
KJV—Now the Lord had said unto Abram….
I will make of thee a great nation, and I will
bless thee, and make thy name great; and
thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless
them that bless thee, and curse him that
curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of
the earth be blessed.

Amp—Now [in Haran], the Lord said to
Abram….I will make of you a great nation,
and I will bless you [with abundant increase
of favors] and make your name famous and
distinguished, and you shall be a blessing—
dispensing good to others. And I will bless
those who bless you [who confer prosperity
or happiness upon you], and curse him
who curses or uses insolent language toward
you; in you shall all the families and
kindred of the earth be blessed—by you
they shall bless themselves.

Moffatt—Said the Eternal to Abram….“I will
make a great nation of you and bless you
and make you famous for your bliss; those
who bless you, I will bless, and anyone who
curses you I will curse, till all nations of the
world seek bliss such as yours.”

NIV—The Lord had said to Abram….“I will
make you into a great nation and I will
bless you; I will make your name great, and
you will be a blessing. I will bless those who
bless you, and whoever curses you I will
curse; and all peoples on earth will be
blessed through you.”

Genesis 26:1-3
KJV—And there was a famine in the land….
And the Lord appeared unto him [Isaac],
and said…Sojourn in this land, and I will be
with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee,
and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries,
and I will perform the oath which I
sware unto Abraham thy father.

Amp—And there was a famine in the land….
And the Lord appeared to him [Isaac], and
said…Dwell temporarily in this land, and I will
be with you and will favor you with blessings;
for to you and to your descendants I will
give all these lands, and I will perform the
oath which I swore to Abraham your father.

Moffatt—When a famine visited the land….
The Eternal appeared to him [Isaac], saying…
Reside in this land, and I will be with you and
bless you [[for to you and your descendants
I give all this region; I will ratify the oath I
swore to your father Abraham.]]

NIV—And there was a famine in the land….

Praise God! As a believer, you can claim
your redemption from every curse mentioned
in Deuteronomy 28! All the blessings of
Abraham belong to you. God has blessed you
with all things that pertain to life and godliness
(2 Peter 1:3). Included in those “all things”
are health, safety, protection, a good marriage
and anything else that affects your life.

When you receive salvation, many benefits
become available to you in addition to
eternal life—benefits for the here and now
as well as for eternity. Salvation denotes
deliverance, preservation and restoration. It
is material and temporal deliverance from
danger and apprehension (fear). You have
been given a pardon with the rights of
protection, liberty, health, soundness and
wholeness through your acceptance of
Jesus, the Anointed One, as Lord of your life.

Provision
Provision is probably the most obvious
aspect of prosperity. The Bible illustrates
again and again that the Lord provides for
His people. And His provision is whatever
you need. That can include finances, but it’s
much more than that. “My God shall supply all
your need according to his riches in glory by Christ
Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Whatever you need,
whether it’s finances, healing, peace, harmony
in your family, the salvation of loved
ones or any other good thing, God can
provide it. “Those who seek the Lord lack no good
thing” (Psalm 34:10).

Some people believe exclusively for
finances to buy the things they need. But if
you’re only expecting finances, you could
miss a harvest that has your name on it. Of
course, God can supply finances. But He is
not limited to operating that way. He may
decide to bypass the finances and just get
the “things” into your hands. He may give
you supernatural deals to stretch your finances,
so that you pay only a fraction of
the cost of an item. Or He may speak to
someone to simply give you what you
need. Either way, it’s no problem for God,
and it’s a blessing to you. So expect miracles
of provision—and be open to receive
them however God sends them.
